BLT sandwich made with crispy bacon, fresh lettuce, ripe tomatoes, avocado, and toasted bread layered with a creamy homemade sauce. This easy recipe is perfect for lunch, dinner, or a quick family meal.

Ingredients

For the Sandwich:

  • 8 slices of bread, cut ½-inch thick
  • 1½ Tbsp unsalted butter (for toasting)
  • 12 slices bacon (regular cut)*
  • 2 large ripe tomatoes, thickly sliced
  • 4 green lettuce leaves, rinsed and dried
  • 1 large avocado (or 2 small), pitted, peeled, and sliced
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Sauce:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise*
  • 2 Tbsp sour cream
  • 2 tsp yellow mustard

*Regular mayo works best, but you can substitute with light mayo.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the bacon slices in a single layer on a foil-lined baking sheet. Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until browned and crispy. Transfer to a paper towel–lined plate to cool.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, and mustard to make the sauce. Set aside.
  3. Lightly butter both sides of the bread slices. Toast on a dry skillet or griddle over medium-high heat until golden brown.
  4. Place 4 slices of toasted bread on a cutting board. Spread about 1 Tbsp of sauce over each slice.
  5. Layer with lettuce, tomato slices, bacon, and avocado. Season the avocado lightly with salt and pepper.
  6. Spread the remaining sauce on the other 4 slices of toast and place them on top, sauce-side down.
  7. Slice the sandwiches in half if desired, and serve immediately.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • A classic BLT made even better with creamy homemade sauce.
  • Crispy bacon, fresh vegetables, and buttery toast in every bite.
  • Perfect for quick lunches, dinners, or weekend brunch.
  • Easy to customize with your favorite toppings.

Tips

  • Bake bacon in the oven for less mess and perfectly even crispness.
  • Use thick-cut bread for sturdier sandwiches.
  • Ripe avocados add creaminess and balance the smoky bacon flavor.
  • Toast bread just until golden for the best texture.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Spicy twist: Add hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne to the sauce.
  • Cheesy BLT: Add slices of cheddar or pepper jack cheese.
  • Healthier option: Use turkey bacon or lean prosciutto.
  • Bread choices: Try sourdough, ciabatta, or whole wheat bread.

FAQs

Can I make the sauce ahead of time?
Yes, the sauce can be made up to 3 days in advance and stored in the fridge.

Can I use a toaster instead of a skillet?
Yes, but butter-toasting in a skillet gives the best flavor and crunch.

How do I keep the sandwich from getting soggy?
Spread sauce only on the inside slices of bread and serve right away.

Serving

Serve BLT sandwiches warm with fries, chips, or a fresh green salad. They also pair perfectly with iced tea or lemonade.

Suggestions

  • Great for picnics or casual gatherings.
  • Cut into quarters and secure with toothpicks for party platters.
